Mom Work Life Balance
Cultivating Flow and Family Harmony as a Single Mom and Healer
If you're reading this, chances are you're a mom who feels pulled in a thousand directions. You're trying to build something meaningful, whether that's a career, a business, or simply a life that feels aligned with your values, while also being present for the little humans who depend on you.
I see you. I am you.
As a single mom and healer, I've learned that "balance" isn't about perfectly dividing your time into neat little boxes. It's about flow. It's about integration. It's about releasing the guilt that tells you you're never doing enough.
The Myth of Perfect Balance
Let's start by releasing the myth. There is no perfect balance. Some days, work will demand more. Some days, your children will need you completely. Some days, YOU will need to come first, and that's not selfish. That's survival. That's wisdom.
The goal isn't balance. The goal is alignment. Are you living in a way that honors your values? Are you making choices that serve your highest good and the good of your family? Are you giving yourself grace when things don't go as planned?
Practical Wisdom from the Trenches
1. Sacred Morning Rituals
Wake before your children, even if it's just 15 minutes. Use this time for prayer, meditation, journaling, or simply sitting in silence with your coffee. This isn't luxury. This is necessity. You cannot pour from an empty cup.
2. Involve Your Children
When possible, let your children see you work. Let them understand that mommy has dreams and goals too. This teaches them that women can be nurturing AND ambitious. It models healthy work ethic and self care.
3. Release the Guilt
Mom guilt is a thief. It steals your joy when you're working and your focus when you're with your kids. Practice catching yourself in guilt spirals and consciously redirecting. You are doing the best you can with what you have.
4. Create Boundaries
Work hours are work hours. Family time is family time. When you're with your children, put the phone away. When you're working, give yourself permission to focus. Blurred boundaries serve no one.
5. Ask for Help
This is not weakness. This is wisdom. Whether it's family, friends, or hired help, you were not designed to do this alone. It takes a village, and there's no shame in building yours.
The Spiritual Dimension
As spiritually seeking women, we have an additional layer to navigate. We're not just trying to manage schedules. We're trying to live in alignment with our souls. We're trying to model faith for our children while also questioning, growing, and evolving.
Your spiritual practice doesn't have to be separate from your motherhood or your work. Find God in the dishes. Find prayer in the bedtime routine. Find meditation in the morning commute. The sacred is everywhere when we have eyes to see it.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come."
Proverbs 31:25
You Are Not Alone
If you're feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or like you're failing at everything, please hear this: You are not alone. Every mother who has ever lived has felt this way at some point. The fact that you care enough to seek balance shows what a good mother you are.
You are doing holy work. The work of raising humans while also honoring your own humanity. Give yourself grace. You deserve it.
With love and solidarity,
